Local basketball fans will have their pick of games this weekend.

In addition to Thursday night’s home opener for the College of the Redwoods men’s team, both the Arcata girls and the McKinleyville boys will host three-day tournaments, also tipping off on Thursday.

There has been a notable buzz surrounding the CR men coming into this season, and this week’s game will be the first opportunity for North Coast fans to check the Corsairs out in person.

So far the CR men have lived up to the early hype, running out to an impressive 8-3 record.

The Corsairs play Sierra (2-5) on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and will also host Southwestern Oregon on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Arcata girls tournament

At Arcata, meanwhile, the Tigers will host their annual girls tournament, with four teams scheduled to play in a round-robin format.

The action gets under way at 6 p.m. on Thursday when McKinleyville plays Foothill, followed by Arcata and Mazama at 7:30 p.m.

The action heats up for local fans on Friday night, when the Tigers and Panthers face off at 8 p.m.

Mack boys tournament

The same two schools could face off at the same time on the same night at Mack High, where the Panthers will be hosting their annual boys tournament.

Mack and Arcata will join the South Fork Cubs as the three local representatives at the three-day tournament.

The action gets under way on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., when South Fork plays Lincoln, followed by Heritage and Casa Grande at 6 p.m., KIPP King and McKinleyville at 7:30 p.m. and Arcata and Windsor at 9 p.m.

If McKinleyville and Arcata both lose, they will play each other at 4 p.m. on Friday, and if they each win they will face off at 8:30 p.m. in the winners’ bracket.

Elsewhere …

Also in action this week, the Eureka boys will play San Lorenzo on Thursday night to open the Ukiah tournament, while the Eureka girls will play Maria Carrillo at the Piner tournament, which also tips off on Thursday.

The St. Bernard’s girls will travel to compete at the Marin Academy tournament, where they will open against Drew on Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Both the Del Norte boys and girls teams will travel to compete at the Yreka Tournament, while the Ferndale boys will compete at the Upper Lake tournament and the Ferndale girls will play at the Anderson tournament.
