Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On Dec. 28, 2019, at about 11:49 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a business on the 38900 block of State Highway 299 in Willow Creek for the report of a stabbing that had just occurred.
When deputies arrived at the business they immediately located the suspect, 36-year-old Janeen Melissa Jackson, attempting to walk away from the scene. Deputies placed Jackson under arrest and made contact with a 21-year-old female victim who was found to have stab-related injuries to her face and upper chest.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned that Jackson and the victim knew each other and were patrons of the business. The two were outside when they got into a verbal altercation. During that altercation, Jackson reportedly brandished a knife, at which time the victim attempted to leave. Jackson prevented the victim from leaving and physically assaulted her with the knife.
The victim fled to safety into a nearby friend’s vehicle. Jackson reportedly attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle. However, the driver of the vehicle containing the victim blocked Jackson’s vehicle, preventing her from leaving.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
Jackson was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm (PC 245(a)(1)).
