Sigrid Webbeking Weir
September 1, 1936 - November 22, 2019
Sigrid W. Weir, age 83, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on November 22, 2019. She was born September 1, 1936 in Santa Ana to father Victor H. Webbeking and mother E. Nevina Olson Webbeking. She spent her childhood years in Long Beach, where she discovered her love of music that started as a cellist in the 6th grade and continued through high school with the Long Beach Women’s Symphony Orchestra. During the 1950s, she belonged to the United Service Organization (USO) where she was introduced to dancing to Big Band music. Her life long love of dance and many other musical outlets grew into a love of singing. She joined her church choir at age 16 and sang in many different choirs over the years, including the First Covenant Church of Eureka.
Sigrid wed Willis Gene Weir on October 17, 1964 in San Jose, where she raised two sons, Robert and Paul, before moving to Eureka in 1981. Along with being a loving and supportive wife and mother, Sigrid worked as a secretary for the California Teachers Association for over 20 years and belonged to the American Business Women’s Association for over 25 years, where she held a variety of offices, including that of president.
Sigrid’s deep faith led her to the First Covenant Church in Eureka where she has been a beloved and devout member for 35 years. Her devotion and desire to serve others inspired her to get involved with the Eureka Rescue Mission, where she dedicated her time and energy to those in need for nearly 20 years. Working with the men of the New Life Program and being a part of the Eureka Rescue Mission family gave Sigrid such encouragement and delight, to see how the love of Jesus Christ changed many of their lives.
Sigrid leaves behind many treasured friends and loved ones, including her two sons, Robert E. Weir (Robin) and Paul A. Weir (Briley); and her cherished grandchildren; Bethany, Robert, Jack, Holden Weir, and Emma Radley. She will also be missed by her beloved brothers, Victor T. Webbeking (Marylee) and Norman Monsen (Kim); her Uncle Kenneth; and all of her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the First Covenant Church, 2526 J St, Eureka on December 14 at 1 p.m.
