The Eureka Loggers pushed a good San Lorenzo team all the way to overtime at the Ukiah tournament on Thursday evening, before falling 73-67 in boys basketball.

Trevor Bell got the season off to an impressive start with 19 points in the loss, while teammate Cahliel Garner finished with 17 points.

“We definitely had our chances,” head coach Robbie Thompson said. “But I’m definitely proud of the boys, the way they stuck together.”

Jayden Thayer and Jackson Giacone each added nine points, while CJ Chadez finished with seven.

The Loggers, who dropped to 0-1, will try to bounce back on Friday when they play West Valley at 6 p.m.

Arcata 73, Windsor 64

Garrett Hall and Kai Purcell each scored 21 to lead the Tigers past Windsor at the McKinleyville tournament on Thursday night.

Purcell had the hot hand early in the game, scoring 10 in the opening quarter and 17 before halftime, before Hall took over in the third quarter, with 15 of his tally coming after the interval.

Freshman Brandon Bento-Jackson continued his impressive start to the season with 14 points in the win, including four 3-pointers.

The Tigers led by seven at halftime, but saw that advantage cut to five after three quarters, before holding off the Jaguars in the fourth.

South Fork 38, Lincoln 87

Riley Gallagher scored a team-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Cubs, who dropped their opening game at the McKinleyville tournament.

Oliver Tatton added eight points in the loss, while Cameron Messenger scored six.

The Cubs, who dropped to 4-2 on the young season, will continue tournament play on Friday.

McKinleyville 40, KIPP King 55

Jack Clancy scored a team-high 12 points to lead the Panthers in their opening game at their own tournament.

Clancy hit three 3-pointers.

Thomas Locatelli and Michael Boatright each added seven points in the loss, while T-Ryan Stumph finished with six points.

The Panthers will continue tournament play on Friday at 4 p.m. against Windsor.

Fortuna 58, Kelseyville 57

The Huskies opened the season with a one-point win over Kelseyville at the St. Helena tournament.

Jaden Kelley led the team with 11 points.

The Huskies continue tournament play on Friday.

Hoopa 69, Forest Lake 47

The Warriors got their first win of the season, topping Forest Lake at the Anderson Valley tournament.
