The Crusaders’ playmakers rose to the challenge on one of the biggest stages of all on Friday, scoring a remarkable 31 unanswered points on the way to securing a place in a state bowl game.

St. Bernard’s defeated East Nicolaus 45-29 in the 6-AA NorCal Regional bracket and will now host South High School out of Torrence at the Redwood Bowl next Saturday at 6 p.m. for the state title.

Check out some of the highlights provided to Humboldt Sports from Friday’s big win, which sends the Crusaders back to a state championship for the second time in five years.

Senior quarterback Will Omey was sensational in the win, accounting for all six touchdowns, throwing for three and running in for three.

Senior receiver Lane Thrap also had a big night, scoring on a 45-yard reception and setting up one of Omey’s TD runs on a big gain to give his team possession at the East Nicolaus 3-yard line.
