Fresh off her big weekend at the North Coast Section wrestling championships, Eureka’s Aracely Rendon was seeded No. 8 on Monday for this week’s state tournament.

Rendon, who captured her second NCS crown at Albany High on Saturday, will open the state championships on Thursday against unseeded Stephanie Gandera, a senior out of Natomas High School in San Jose.

The Eureka junior is in the 189-pound bracket, and is one of three local girls to qualify for the prestigious tourney.

McKinleyville senior Audriana Beattie, who placed second at the sections at 160, will open against Vivian Frausto, also a senior, out of Shadow Hills High in the Southern Section.

Del Norte’s Danika Scott also qualified after placing third at the sections, and will face a difficult opening matchup against the No. 3 seed in the 235 bracket.

The Del Norte junior will wrestle senior Sierra Adams-Gregory, the Southern Section champion out of Lakewood High.

The state tournament will take place in Bakersfield.
