For the second time this season, it came down to the wire between the Humboldt State and Chico State men’s basketball teams, only this time things didn’t go the Jacks’ way.
After knocking off their biggest rivals in a thrilling two-point showdown at home earlier this season, this time around the Jacks failed on a last-gasp effort to tie the game, falling 67-65 at Chico.
With the loss, the Jacks drop to 9-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings and 15-8 overall.
The Jacks have now lost three of their last five.
The HSU women’s team, meanwhile, outscored Chico State 9-5 in overtime to edge out a 76-72 road win.
With the victory, the Jacks improve to 10-5 in the CCAA and 12-6 overall.
Isamar Conde scored a team-high 24 points for the Jacks to go with 15 rebounds, while teammate Alexia Thrower finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Maddie Hatch added 17 points.
Former Arcata High standout and Big 5 MVP Vanessa Holland scored 11 points for Chico.
