The College of the Redwoods baseball and softball teams each split doubleheaders on the road on Saturday.

The men ended a nine-game losing skid with a big 13-inning win at Butte in the opener, before being shut out in the nightcap.

The women split a doubleheader for the second straight day, dropping the opener to Sequoias and taking game two against Chabot.

Softball

The Corsairs rebounded from a 7-1 loss to Sequoias in the morning by beating Chabot 10-1 in the afternoon.

CR is now 2-4 on the young season.

In the opener, the Corsairs kept it close until the seventh inning when they gave up three runs.

CR got one hit each from Bronwyn Gilfillan, Becca Tripp, Amy Reyes and Adriana Chavez, while Ashley Stockwell took the loss in the pitcher’s circle.

For the second straight day, the CR bats came out swinging hard in game two, as the Corsairs gradually pulled away, scoring runs in five of the six innings played.

Chavez continued her impressive road trip with four hits, including a pair of doubles and four RBIs, while Pheobe Marsh finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Dakota Small also had a double, while Gilfillan and Lindsey Scott each added a hit.

Chavez has six extra-base hits in the past two days.

Scott pitched the win, improving to 2-1.

Baseball

After getting shut out in their conference opener at Butte on Friday evening by a score of 2-0, the CR men battled back to take a 13-inning game by a score of 7-5 on Saturday morning.

Angelo Flores tied the game with a pinch hit RBI double in the eighth inning.

The in-form Gannon Cyphers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th on an RBI double.

Cyphers finished 2-for-5 with the RBI double.

Charles Morgan was 3-for-7 with a double and three runs scored, while Andrew Enwiya went 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Knute Thompson also had three hits, including a double, while Tucker Mathews finished with a pair of hits.

James Garcia got the win on the mound in relief.

The Corsairs dropped the nightcap 12-0, managing just two hits, one each from Garcia and Cyphers.

The Corsairs are scheduled to host Feather River in a three-game conference series next weekend.
