Eureka junior Aracely Rendon was the most successful of the three local wrestlers at this week’s CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield, placing an impressive seventh at the prestigious event.

Rendon was seeded No. 8 in the 189-pound bracket, but lost her second-round match in a 13-12 decision to Osorio Kayvette out of Golden Valley High in the Central Section.

She then battled back on day two to win three straight matches before eventually dropping a 4-0 decision, which sent her into the seventh-place showdown.

There she defeated Madlyne Navarro out of El Camino High in San Diego, the No. 2 seed at the tournament, with a 4-3 decision.

For the tournament, Rendon was 5-2, with four of her wins coming by pin.

The Eureka junior won the North Coast Section crown last weekend, her second in three years, to qualify for the state meet.

McKinleyville’s Audriana Beattie and Del Norte’s Danika Scott each also qualified for the big meet.

Beattie finished 1-2, bouncing back from an opening-day loss on Thursday to beat Belen Merino out of San Pasqual High in San Diego with a pin on Friday.

Scott had a tough opening round matchup against three-time national champion, senior Sierra Adams-Gregory out of Lakewood High in the Southern Section.

The Del Norte junior finished 0-2 at the tournament.
