A disappointing season for both College of the Redwoods basketball teams continued at Shasta on Saturday, with each losing to the home team.

The CR women did play the conference-leading Knights close, falling by just six points, 65-59.

Bobbie Purify led the Corsairs with 22 points, as the visitors started the stronger of the two teams and led by seven after the opening quarter.

But after scoring 22 points in the first quarter, the Corsairs were held to just five in the second, and the home team stretched the lead to double digits in the third.

The Corsairs, however, rallied late, outscoring the Knights 22-13 in the fourth, before falling just short.

Jayden Johnson added 10 points in the loss, while Taylor Murray finished with nine points.

The CR women dropped to 0-7 in the Golden Valley Conference and 5-15 overall.

The CR men, meanwhile, remain winless on the season after falling 91-44.

Jose Macaraeg paced CR with 18 points, while Elysha Jackson added eight points.

The Corsairs dropped to 0-7 in conference and 0-23 overall.
