Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Del Norte’s Ethan Price will play football at Western Oregon in the fall.

Del Norte senior Ethan Price signed a letter of intent this week to play football next season at Western Oregon University.

Price, a three-year varsity starter with the Warriors, is one of the top high school athletes on the North Coast, also starring in track and field and in basketball.

But it is on the football field where he will take his talents to the next level, opting to play for the NCAA Division-II program.

And Del Norte head coach Lewis Nova is confident his former star will fit right in at the collegiate level.

“He’s just so versatile,” Nova said. “And he’s always striving to be better. We moved him up as a sophomore and he took his growing pains. But he kept at it and he led us for two years.”

Price has played safety and linebacker for the Warriors on the defensive side of the ball, and told the Del Norte Triplicate this week that he expects to play outside linebacker or strong safety in college.

The versatile athlete also started at quarterback for two seasons for the Warriors, before contributing at several offensive positions this past season, including quarterback, receiver and running back.

Nova said his willingness to learn will help him go a long way at the next level.

“He’s versatile, and he’ll listen,” Nova said. “And these are great qualities to have.”

Meanwhile, Price will be in action on Friday night in the Dick Niclai Memorial Tournament championship game in basketball at Humboldt State.

The senior helped his team to an impressive 62-51 win at Hoopa Valley in Thursday’s semifinal matchup.
