With four consecutive wins and a 9-0 record in Lumberjack Arena, the Humboldt State men’s basketball team continues to build momentum, moving up to No. 9 in Monday’s D2SIDA West Regional Poll.
The Lumberjacks were 2-0 at home last week, and are now 7-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. and 13-5 overall.
HSU is also now in sole possession of third in the CCAA standings.
“We keep winning games and people are taking notice of that,” HSU head coach Steve Kinder said. “We are building momentum, and it seems like our guys are working harder with that momentum behind them.
“We feel like a train going down the tracks. We’re going in the right direction and feeling really good about ourselves and our work ethic.”
The Jacks travel to play at Cal State East Bay, which is second in the CCAA, on Thursday, and will play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
Everett earns CCAA Player of the Week honors
Humboldt State senior Justin Everett was honored as the CCAA men’s basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Everett averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games last week, scoring a team-best 21 points on 60-percent shooting in Thursday’s win over Cal State LA, to go with six boards.
The senior added 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a pair of assists in Saturday’s comeback victory over Dominguez Hills.
“Justin continues to perform well each game, and his preparation and hard work are the keys to his success,” Kinder said. “He anchors our inside presence in the paint which leads to our balanced attack.”
The Clovis native has earned the conference honor twice this season.
Conde named CCAA women’s Player of the Week
Humboldt State senior Isamar Conde was named the CCAA women’s basketball Player of the Week Tuesday.
The senior from El Dorado Hills averaged 23 points and five rebounds in two wins, connecting on 47.1 percent of her shots, including going 7-of-16 from downtown.
She scored 21 points and grabbed eight boards against Cal State LA, and followed that performance with a 23-point effort against Dominguez Hills.
After the weekend, Conde ranks second in the CCAA in 3-point shooting percentage at 39.3 percent.
“I am very proud of Isa for being named Player of the Week,” HSU head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson said. “I thought it was a well-deserved award for Isa as she put two solid games together. Isa really displayed her experience and played like a veteran in both games.”
