The Del Norte Warriors edged out Fortuna on Tuesday night in the most anticipated wrestling dual meet of the season in the Humboldt-Del Norte League.

The visiting Warriors came away from Fortuna with a key 36-30 win in a showdown between the top two teams on the North Coast.

Del Norte won eight of the 14 matches, including one by forfeit.

Chaz Harrison (113 pounds), Skylar Moore (132) and Wyatt Schneck (138) each pinned their opponents for the Warriors, while Jordan Woodley (182), Blake Allen (126) and Tanner Standclif (152) each won by decision.

At 195 pounds, Braydon Henderson edged Fortuna’s Luke Del Monte in a dramatic triple-overtime match, winning 4-3 on a technical violation.

At 120, Cruz Cerros won by forfeit.

For Fortuna, Adam Medeiros, who is one of this week’s Humboldt Sports Athletes of the Week, pinned Curtis Turner at 172.

Fortuna’s Dell McKenzie (220), Logan Krause (106) and Levi Nyberg (145) each also pinned their opponents, while teammates Joey Pontes (160) and Shane Kirk (285) each won by decision.

Warriors, Huskies top the Cubs

The South Fork wrestlers were also on hand for the meet.

The Huskies took care of business against the Cubs by a score of 84-0, while the Warriors beat them 81-0.

Tai Bolden, Nyberg, Jason Renwand, James Owsley, Jace Garcia, Matthew Crnkovich and Kirk each won for the Huskies.

Wyatt Schneck, Sherrik Cron, Seth Gorbet, Turner, Henderson, Branden Jones and Davice Ahdehl each won for Del Norte.

Everret Parker, Logan Hobbs, Damian Cazores, Jared Sollins, John Gamble, Gage Hallburg, Kaden Pogue, and Caleb Wilkins all represented South Fork.
