Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Fortuna Huskies clinched their second straight league title this week.

This year’s Huskies are so good, apparently they even win when they don’t play.

On Friday night, while enjoying a bye, the Fortuna boys were officially crowned outright Big 5 champions, courtesy of Arcata’s stunning upset win at second-placed Del Norte.

The loss dropped the Warriors to 3-3 in league play, while Fortuna is 6-0 and can no longer be caught.

The league title is the second straight for the program.

The Huskies (22-1 overall) had clinched at least a share of the title with an overtime win at home to Del Norte on Wednesday.

The championship comes as no surprise, with the Huskies considered the heavy favorites coming into league play.

The Fortuna boys remain the No. 2 ranked Division-IV team in both the North Coast Section and the state, trailing Branson in each.

Having made the league title official, the Huskies will now go into the Dick Niclai Memorial Tournament in two weeks as the No. 1 seed for the Big 5.

In the meantime, they will close out league play with a pair of games this coming week at Arcata on Wednesday and at home to McKinleyville on Friday.
