It was another Saturday night thriller at Lumberjack Arena, as the Humboldt State men’s basketball team knocked off the No. 13 team in the country, UC San Diego, by a score of 67-65.
Freshman Amari Green got the winning basket to break the tie in the closing seconds, as the jacks responded to a disappointing loss at home to Cal State San Marcos two days before.
“It was such a rollercoaster from Thursday’s game to tonight’s victory,” HSU head coach Steve Kinder said. “I am so proud of how the guys refocused so quickly and came out and played a tremendous game.”
With the win, the Jacks improve to 9-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and re-take sole possession of third place in the standings, one win ahead of Cal Poly Pomona (8-5), and two wins behind both Cal State East Bay (11-2) and UC San Diego (11-2).
The Jacks are 15-7 overall and 10-1 at home.
UC San Diego dropped to 16-4 overall.
In women’s action, HSU fell to visiting UC San Diego by a score of 72-61.
The loss ends a five-game winning streak for the Jacks, who dropped to 9-5 in conference and 11-6 overall.
