The Fortuna wrestlers continued to impress with another strong showing at the Ukiah tournament over the weekend, placing fourth as a team.

Fortuna was led once again by senior Adam Medeiros, who is quietly enjoying an outstanding winter on the mats and appears to be getting stronger at a pivotal time of the season.

Medeiros was the Huskies’ lone individual winner at 170 pounds, posting three pins on the day in a combined 2 minutes, 31 seconds on the mat.

The Huskies also claimed four individual third-place finishes, as well as a pair of fifth-place finishes, showcasing the team’s depth as it gears up for this coming weekend’s North Coast Section Dual Team Championships at Eureka High.

Andrew Hansen (140), Joey Pontes (160), Levi Nyberg (145) and Shane Kirk (285) each placed third in their respective brackets, the latter pinning Hoopa Valley’s Colton Hayes in the third-place match.

At 182, Jace Garcia took fifth, as did Del McKenzie at 220.

Del Norte placed third at the tournament, edging out Fortuna by just half a point (132-131.5).

No individual scoring details were available for Del Norte.

The two schools are enjoying a good rivalry this season, and both will be on hand at this week’s NCS championships.

The following week, the two schools will join the rest of the Humboldt-Del Norte League at the conference championships.

Two Arcata wrestlers were also in action at Ukiah this past weekend.

Marley Harris placed fifth at 106, and Tyrell Clausen was sixth at 120.
