It is with great sadness we report that Richard Allen Casey passed away suddenly on December 22, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital, surrounded by family, at the age of 69.

Born November 10, 1949 in Michigan, Rick joined the Army in 1968 and married Ila (Kay) in 1970 before moving to Humboldt County in 1982.

Rick was Santa’s #1 helper for not only his family but also at St. Joseph Hospital, Glen Paul and Eureka elementary schools. Many of you have known him from working at Handee Market, or calling bingo at St. Bernard’s, or owning Delightful Things, or playing cards with his poker buddies, or going to the casino, or enjoying his family times with barbecues, birthday parties, Christmas gatherings. Everyone who knew Rick came to love him with his laughter and smile. He was always joking around. Rick enjoyed John Wayne movies and memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Kay Casey of Eureka; children Richard & Kari Casey of Simi Valley, Scott & Samanthia Carns of Eureka, Jason & Rana Snider of Eureka, Stephanie Casey of Eureka; grandchildren Tara (Hunter) Busbee of Abilene, Texas, Kimberly (Tyler) Machado of Montague, California, Jacob Snider Eureka, Brittani (Ethan) Croan of Eureka, Kevin (Ashlee) Carns of Eureka, Daniol (Brittany) Carns of Eureka, Kaylei and Kyle Gallo of Eureka, Kyle Casey of Simi Valley, Kelsei Popp of Eureka, and Kenny Casey of Eureka; great-grandchildren Owen Croan, Ayden Croan, Alivia Carns, Eli Carns (due soon), Ava Carns, all of Eureka, Emberlei & McKenna Busbee of Abilene, Texas; Brothers Norvel aka JR (Fay) and Rex (Kathleen) of Arkansas, Michael (Lynn) Casey of Grass Valley, Jeff (Lori) Casey of Menlo Park; sisters Karen Rolley of Fresno, Sue Casey of Oregon; his best friend, Tom Bronchetti; poker buddies, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
