Here we go again.

For the second straight week, the Eureka Eagles and Northern Humboldt Giants 17U teams will face off for a tournament championship on Sunday, this time at the American Legion Area One Tournament in Red Bluff.

On Saturday, the Eagles continued to set the pace, beating top seed Siskiyou 8-1 to go to 3-0 at the tournament and advance to the championship game.

The Giants, meanwhile, had to do it the hard way after losing 3-2 to Siskiyou on Friday, but won a pair of elimination games on Saturday to battle back and give themselves a shot at the championship.

They will need to beat the Eagles twice on Sunday to claim the title, something they managed a week ago against the same opposition on the way to the District championship.

The Eagles, on the other hand, need to win just once for the title.

Regardless of what happens on Sunday, as the top two teams in the Area they will both advance to next week’s state tournament in Yountville.

Eagles 8, Siskiyou 1

Lane Thrap struck out 11 and gave up just four hits in a complete game, as the Eagles pulled out a comfortable win over Siskiyou.

Keenan Morris provided the offensive highlight of the game with a home run and also drove in three runs, while Thrap was 2-for-3 with a double.

Brayden Youkey also had a big game, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Jenner Christiansen was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Hayden Bode rounded out an eight-hit team performance.

The Eagles play the Giants at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Giants 4, Tehama Bulls 2

The Giants opened up a 4-0 lead after four and a half innings and made it stick in the first of their two elimination games on Saturday.

Asher Meadows pitched a complete game for the win, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Drew Viznor stepped up big at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 to pace an 11-hit team performance.

Arcata’s Vincent Agliolo and Porter Price each finished 2-for-3, including a double by Price.

Giants 9, Siskiyou 4

One day after a heartbreaking loss to Siskiyou, the Giants got their revenge, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning to break open a 2-2 tie.

Will Mager pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Viznor capped an outstanding day with two more hits, while Nick Parker and Cayden Lee each was 2-for-3, including a double and two RBIs by Lee.

Meadows added a double.
