There was no late letdown for the Eureka Eagles this time around.
On Sunday, the American Legion 17U team defeated close rivals, the Northern Humboldt Giants, 2-1 in Red Bluff for the Area One tournament championship.
One week after losing twice to the Giants on the final day of the District tournament, the Eagles took care of business this time around to close out the four-day tournament unbeaten at 4-0.
And the two close rivals could potentially meet again next weekend, with both advancing to the four-team American Legion 17U state tournament in Yountville.
On Sunday, the Eagles overcame an early one-run deficit with runs in the fifth and seventh innings to pull out the win.
Hayden Bode pitched a complete game for the win, and was as effective as ever, allowing just three hits to go with six walks.
At the plate, Jenner Christiansen and Parker Rodgers each finished with a pair of hits, while Zac Anderson and Brayden Youkey each had a hit.
Ethan Pesch was also 1-for-3 and scored one of his team’s two runs, while Lane Thrap had a pair of stolen bases and scored the other run.
Vincent Agliolo pitched a complete game for the Giants, giving up eight hits and one walk while striking out three.
Alex Gorge led the way at the plate for the Giants, finishing 2-for-3 with yet another double, while Cayden Lee was 1-for-3 with the team’s only RBI.
