Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On July 16, 2019, at about 2:51 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of the 6200 block of Berry Lane in Cutten for the report of an unknown subject attempting to gain entry into residences.

A deputy on patrol in the area arrived on scene within one minute of the call and observed a male subject running across the roadway into the yard of a nearby residence. While attempting to locate the subject, the deputy was contacted by a 63-year-old male who stated he had just been the victim of a home invasion and the subject observed fleeing was believed to be one of the suspects.

According to the victim, prior to the deputy’s arrival two suspects wearing ski-masks broke a window and entered his residence while he was inside. When confronted, one suspect brandished a firearm at the victim. A physical altercation ensued between the victim and the suspects, during which the victim was struck multiple times with the firearm and other objects. During the altercation, the victim was able to remove one suspect’s ski-mask and obtain a description of the suspect’s appearance. Following the altercation, the suspects fled on foot from the residence. The victim sustained moderate, non-gunshot related injuries and received medical treatment on scene.

While patrolling the surrounding areas, a sheriff’s deputy located one suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Pares Terrance Pool, walking near Walnut Drive and Avalon Drive. Upon deputy contact, Pool fled. After a short foot pursuit, Pool was taken into custody without further incident.

Pool was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, resisting a peace officer and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The second suspect in this case is still outstanding at this time. He is described as a black male adult, in his 20’s, approximately 6 feet 1 inches tall, wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and red Nike-style shoes.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the reporting party in this incident for reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhood and preventing additional crime from occurring in the area.
