The Humboldt Eagles 19U got off to a quick start at the American Legion Area One Tournament in Woodland on Thursday, defeating Napa 7-0.

St. Bernard’s Nick Dugan pitched six and a third innings of shutout ball for the win, allowing just two hits.

Dugan, who is just 15, has been in sensational form for the Eagles this summer and was dominating once again against the Napa bats.

Scott Coffelt added a two-run home run to provide the offensive highlight of the game, as a determined Eagles team took care of business on the opening day.

Gannon Cyphers, who leads the Eagles in hitting this summer, was instrumental again, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Cyphers also retired the final two batters of the game to preserve the shutout on the mound.

The Eagles, who are now 33-11, will play defending tournament champion Petaluma in the winners’ bracket on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Caleb Ruiz will get the start on the mound.
