One day after securing a berth in this year’s American Legion state tournament, the Humboldt Eagles 19U closed out play at the Area One Tournament in Woodland, falling to Petaluma 8-3 on Monday morning.

With the win, their second over the Eagles in four days, Petaluma claimed the Area championship.

As the last two remaining teams, however, both advance to next weekend’s state tournament in Yountville, where they will face off against the best Legion teams from SoCal.

The Eagles displayed a lot of resiliency at the five-day eight-team tournament, battling back from a loss on Friday to win two straight elimination games over the weekend to qualify for the state finals.

On Monday, however, they were unable to take advantage of another strong pitching performance from starter Garrison Finck, giving up six late runs in the loss.

At the plate, Hunter Davis and Caleb Ruiz each had two hits for Humboldt, while Cody Emmons added a pinch hit RBI single and Scott Coffelt was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
