Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Humboldt infielder JB Lewis is greeted by teammate C.J. Van Meter (33) during a recent game.

Fresh off a big showing at the Area One Tournament in Woodland over the weekend, the Humboldt Eagles 19U found out who their opening opponent will be at this week’s state tournament when the brackets were released on Monday.

The Eagles will open against West Hills out of San Diego on Friday at noon, in the second of three games scheduled for the first day.

The tournament features the top six American Legion teams from throughout the state, with the Eagles qualifying as one of two teams from Area One.

Petaluma defeated Humboldt for the Area championship on Monday and will open the state tournament against Patrick Henry SD on Friday at 3 p.m.

If the Eagles win their opener, they will play the winner of the game between Merced and Long Beach on Saturday afternoon.

Arcata ace Merek Sears will get the start for the Eagles in Friday’s opener.
