On 07-26-2019, at about 4:30 AM, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious fire on the 100 block of Apple Ln., in Redway.  It was reported that a vehicle had been set on fire.

Garberville and Redway Fire responded and were able to suppress the fire.  Deputies along with California Highway Patrol Officers, responded to investigate.  Once on scene deputies determined three vehicles and a residential structure had been burned.  Due to suppression efforts the residence sustained only minor damage.  No one was injured in the incident.

Upon further investigation deputies discovered evidence the fire may have been intentionally set.  The Arson Task force was notified, and Sheriff’s Arson Investigators along with Cal Fire responded to the scene.  

CHP located a suspicious vehicle in the area immediately after receiving the initial call. Officers stopped the vehicle and attempted to make inquiry of the two occupants.  However, after being detained for several minutes, one passenger exited the vehicle and then the driver fled.  The passenger who was detained on scene denied involvement in the arson. He and the driver of the vehicle are still persons of interest in this case.  The investigation is ongoing.
