Douglas Eugene Iverson
Nov. 24, 1957 - April 21, 2019

Sadly, on Easter Doug died suddenly at age 61. He suffered a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

He had been a Locksmith for many years. He owned Lock Doktor II in Fortuna when, in 2007, his third traumatic brain injury occurred. Due to the limitations of the brain injury he had lived with his mother for the last 4-plus years. In 2016 she was horribly injured and 98 percent bedridden for over three months. He took excellent care of her. And he continued to cook and be her chauffeur at all times for another three months. (He never complained at any time).

He died in the best part of this life. He was currently on the Board of Directors at the Hope Center and an avid participant at Making Headway (for brain injury recovery). He was involved at the Faith Center Church, where he volunteered on Monday nights. Also, he was a volunteer and helped many under-represented people in our area. Although shy, if justice was involved, he would willing stand up for others.

Schooled in all the construction trades, he graduated from Job Corps, Estacada, Oregon in 1979. He was a journeyman plasterer and an expert at wallpapering. He had just started his own business and then was injured in 1993. Fortunately, via Department of Rehabilitation he was trained to locksmith and learn the aspects of the business by his mentors, Wanda and Frank Cope of Fortuna.

He enjoyed working in an edible landscape garden, increased the size of it and grew tasty porcini mushrooms. He was helpful, creative, resourceful, grateful — a good man and a kind man. He was a happy person. A descendant of the Humboldt County Pioneer families Crank/Flint/Barkdull, Doug loved Humboldt and had lived here for the last 23 years. He was the second son of Ellen Bryant and brother of Roger Iverson, Dan Bryant and Barry Bryant. Doug’s son and two grandchildren live in Hilo, Hawaii.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, i am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sun on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, am the swift uplifting rush. Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, am not there. I did not die. (Memorial Day, Mary Frye).
