It took 11 innings but it was worth the wait for the Humboldt B52s, who won an exciting clash with the Fairfield Indians 1-0 at Bomber Field on Friday night.
Spencer Duggan drove in the go-ahead run on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 11th to finally break the deadlock in this pitchers’ duel.
The B52s managed just five hits on the night, with Matt Mascio leading the way and finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, as well as two walks.
Duggan, Eric Smelko and Karter Koch each also had a hit in the win, including a double by Koch.
The B52s utilized six different pitchers, who combined to allow just six hits in 11 scoreless innings.
Relief pitcher Ryan Rivera allowed just one hit in two innings for the win, improving to 3-4 on the summer.
The two clubs continue their weekend series at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
The Humboldt Crabs, meanwhile, won their 12th straight on Friday night, defeating the Lincoln Potters 10-4 at the Arcata Ball Park.
The Crabs had three home runs in the win, one each from Riley Cleary, Damian Henderson and Bryce Kirk, with Cleary driving in five runs total.
McKinleyville’s Dylan Campbell got the win on the mound, pitching five and a third innings.
Campbell allowed three earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, while striking out four.
The two teams play again on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
