The Northern Humboldt Steelheads 13U baseball team completed an unbeaten run through pool play at the USSSA World Series in San Diego on Thursday with two more wins.
The 4-0 Steelheads defeated the Hilo Diamondbacks 9-5 and the Scottsdale Scorpions 10-2, and earned the No. 2 seed for the weekend playoffs in their AA bracket.
Del Norte’s Brody Mattz and Arcata’s Cedar Cline, Miles Oliver and Noah York each pitched well in the two wins.
Cline also drove in the go-ahead run against the Diamondbacks with a two-run single.
York, Jade Lack, Matteo Copp and Lorenzo Solares each also had multiple hits in the win.
Copp, who is enjoying a big tournament, almost hit his second grand slam in two days against Scottsdale, but had to settle for a bases-clearing double.
Cline, Solares and Mattz also had multiple hits in the win.
The Steelheads, who have now won nine straight, will play Hilo again to open the playoffs on Saturday.
