Cattissa Kelsey
Sept. 9, 1990 – June 22, 2019

Cattissa Rose Kelsey passed away suddenly in a tragic accident in Florida, where she spent the last year in McAlpin.

Cattissa was born in Eureka, and raised in Blue Lake by Richard and Rose Harnden. She attended Blue Lake Elementary and Arcata High School. She went to HSU and College of The Redwoods to study environmental science and forestry.

Cattissa was smart, creative, and talented. She could do anything she set her mind to. Cattissa created beautiful jewelry, inspired by her native american roots. She loved creating new arrangements in her flower garden. Cattissa enjoyed taking care of her pets, and taking them on new adventures. She was always rescuing stray animals and nursing them back to health.

She was an expert in many things, including sewing, knitting, crocheting, drawing, and Ukrainian egg painting. She had so many skills and talents that she used them to start her own Etsy shop. Her attention to detail in everything she made was astounding. Every year she always participated in, and looked forward to, the UIHS Christmas craft fairs and the Trinidad Christmas craft fairs.

Cattissa could make friends everywhere she went. People were drawn to her glowing personality, sweet nature and smile.

She loved swing dancing and made so many friends through the dancing community. She was always involved in sports and activities. and loved music. She played the trumpet in concert band and marching band, and was always wanting to learn more instruments.

The unique bond that Cattissa shared with her twin sister Cassandra will never be broken or forgotten. She is survived by so many family members and friends too numerous to name each one.

Cattissa’s light and heart will be missed on this earth. We are mourning the loss of such a special young lady and we are all deeply saddened by her passing. It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye, that her journey here on earth is over, but we will forever honor her in our hearts and memories.

Cattissa’s remains have been returned to Humboldt County. A celebration of life will be held at Perigot Park in Blue Lake, Saturday August 31 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Please bring your favorite dish to share.
