UPDATE, 6:39 p.m: A press release sent out by Cal Fire states that forward progress of the fire has been stopped and, due to the low intensity fire, no adverse impacts on wildlife in the area are expected. Crews will be committed until 11:00 p.m.


UPDATE, 6:00 p.m.: Paul Savona — Cal Fire Battalion Chief for the Humboldt-Del Norte unit — told the Outpost that the crews were able to access the fire and are making progress on putting it out. The fire is currently holding at about a half an acre in size.

ORIGINAL POST:

At 2:38 p.m. today a quarter-acre vegetation fire broke out in the Benbow area, according to a Calfire press release.

Cal Fire, Garberviille Fire and Redway Fire were all responding to the fire which was in a difficult to reach area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
