Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On July 7, 2019, at about 1:10 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on the 1800 block of Myrtle Avenue, in the county’s jurisdiction of Eureka, for the report of an assault that had just occurred.

When deputies arrived on scene, they located a 22-year-old male victim with a non-life-threatening injury to his head. The victim told deputies that he had been waiting outside of the residence for a friend when 23-year-old David Kevin McKenzie Jr. approached him and struck him with a wrench.

Deputies later learned that McKenzie had been seen fleeing into the backyard of a nearby residence following the assault. Deputies responded to the residence and located McKenzie hiding in shrubbery.

McKenzie was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of felony assault.
