It was a fitting end to a memorable season for the top seeds in the District 26 Tournament of Champions, as Murphy’s defeated Trinity Diesel 14-3 in the championship game on Tuesday evening.

Playing in front of a packed house at Hiller Park in McKinleyville, Murphy’s didn’t disappoint, finishing the season in style and closing out with a record of 19-3. 

The championship game capped four days of tournament action featuring the top 16 teams in the district.

Murphy’s won all four of their games in the single-elimination tournament, comfortably outscoring their opponents by a combined 40-13.

The champions feature a squad of 12 players, including five 12-year-olds, Carter Eichin, Kolbey Stolpe, Conner Jones, Austin Mitchell and Charlie Vander Pool.

The team also included 11-year-olds Michael Manzi, Patrick Wilson and Blake Santos; 10-year-olds Bode Reininger, Cody Wilson and Lucas Jones; and nine-year-old Jacob Brunner.

Murphy’s reached the championship game after defeating the Blue Lake Orioles in Monday’s semifinal behind a strong pitching effort from Manzi and three hits from Stople, two of them triples.
