The Humboldt B52s opened a five-game road trip with a 4-2 loss to the P.U.F. Caps in Palo Alto on Monday night.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the B52s, who are now 7-5.

The B52s took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning, and scored again an inning later to tie the game at 2-2.

But the home team had the final say with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Eric Smelko had a big day for the B52s, finishing 3-for-4, while Cody Banks was 2-for-3.

Tommy Gale, Braeden Holliday, Cole Harper and David Vagle each also had a hit for the visitors.

Ryan Rivera took the loss in relief of starter Cody Sheets, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks.

Sheets pitched six solid innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and two walks.
