The Humboldt B52s made a game of it for the second straight day in Palo Alto, before falling to the P.U.F. Caps for the second straight day, 9-5 on Tuesday.

Eric Smelko gave the visitors the lead with a big two-RBI triple in the top of the fifth inning, but they were unable to hold the advantage with the Caps scoring three times in the sixth on the way to the win.

Karter Koch added a double and two RBIs for the B52s, who dropped to 7-6 on the season.

Spencer Duggan, Cody Banks, David Vagle and Jacob Smith each also had a base hit in the loss.

In what was a back-and-forth game, the B52s scored twice in the top of the first to take the early lead, before the home team answered immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Jordan Forrester got the start on the mound for the B52s, allowing eight runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings work, with Vagle and Koch each pitching well in relief.

The B52s will be back in action on Thursday night when they play the Colt 45’s in Redding.
