Ray Hamill/humboldtSports.com – The Crabs talk things over during Friday night’s series opener.

The Corvallis Knights scored twice in the top of the eighth inning on the way to a 2-1 win over the Humboldt Crabs at the Arcata Ball Park on Sunday afternoon to complete an opening weekend sweep of their rivals.

The shorthanded Crabs managed just six hits for the game, with Bryce Kirk finishing 1-for-3 and driving in the team’s only run in the bottom of the sixth.

Riley Clearly took the loss on the mound in relief of starter Davonte Butler, who allowed just three hits in 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out six.

After dropping the series opener 8-3 on Friday night, the Crabs fell 9-3 on Saturday.

The visitors scored four times in the second and three more in the fifth to open up an 8-1 lead in Saturday’s game and never looked in danger of losing.

The highlight of the game for the home team was a pair of solo home runs by Kirk and Kokko Figueiredo.

Figueiredo, a former Fortuna High and College of the Redwoods standout, finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Starting pitcher Josh Mollerus allowed five earned runs on six hits in four innings and took the loss.

The 0-3 Crabs will try to get their first win when they host the Redding Colt 45’s on Wednesday night at the Arcata Ball Park at 7:15 p.m. travel to Redding to meet the Redding Colt 45’s on Wednesday.
