Expect some pre-July 4th fireworks at Bomber Field this weekend, as the B52s welcome the Redding Colt 45’s to town for a three-game stand.

The Colt 45’s have played five games this summer against the B52s and Humboldt Crabs combined, with a remarkable 117 runs scored in those games, an average of 23.4 runs a game.

So fans can expect more of the same at Bomber Field when the series gets under way on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

The B52s, who won three games between the two clubs in Redding last weekend, will carry some momentum into the series after getting the better of Team Australia at Bomber Field on Thursday night, defeating the touring club 8-2 and ending a two-game losing skid.

There was little between the two teams early on,  but the B52s pulled away late, breaking the deadlock with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and adding five more over the following two innings.

Several local players were instrumental in the win, including 2018 high school grads, Ethan Fischel of Eureka and Cole Harper of Del Norte, both of whom finished with a pair of hits, including a double each.

For good measure, Fischel also had a pair of walks, while Harper drove in three runs and added a stolen base.

Two more 2018 H-DNL graduates, Austin Kadle of Arcata and Jacob Smith of McKinleyville, each also had a hit in the win, including a double by Smith, while Spencer Duggan, Tommy Gale and Mateo Hamm rounded out a nine-hit team performance.

Veteran B52s pitcher Ruben Rios got the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and four walks in six scoreless innings.

Hamm and Matt Burwell pitched in relief.

With the win, the B52s improved to 11-8.
