Press release from Humboldt Bay Fire:
The sound of an unfamiliar alarm caught the attention of two neighbors on Amy Ct. Friday, June 28th, 2019 around 2:30p.m. which led them to the sight of white smoke coming from the home across the street.
The neighbors prudently called 9-1-1, triggering an immediate response by HBF crews who were able to contain the fire to the family room, protecting the rest of the home from more advanced damage.
After extinguishing the fire, HBF partnered with a local agency to ensure the homeowner received assistance in the recovery process moving forward.
An initial investigation regarding the cause of the fire revealed that a nearby electronic source ignited a small couch, which spread fire to the rest of the affected areas. In total, estimated damage to the home is around $50,000.
Humboldt Bay Fire would like to thank Arcata Fire District for coverage, and HBF Fire Support, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, and New Life Services for onscene assistance.
To be safe, remember to always fully turn off and unplug electronic devices before storing them on hard surfaces.
