Daniel Marley McGregor
April 21, 1993- June 12, 2019

Daniel, also known as “Danny Blues,” was 26 years old and a Humboldt County local. He attended Sunset Elementary School, Sunny Brae Middle School and East High School in Fortuna.  He died in Emeryville. Daniel is survived by his mother, Stella Romanini, father, Tony McGregor, and younger sister, Sara McGregor.

His family will always remember how magical Daniel was. Danny was truly a special young man with a great sense of humor and smile that reached the stars. His soul craved adventure, and it lead him wherever his heart desired. He was a risk-taker. He was brave, sometimes too brave for his own good, but that’s why he was so loved. He was outspoken and unapologetic. If he said something, he meant it. Everything he did, he did with passion. He loved harder than anyone we know.

He and his father bonded over making and talking about music. They had plans of creating “The McGregor Project,” which would showcase both of their talents and creative abilities. Daniel loved his mother immensely. He enjoyed sharing all of his exciting moments with her no matter how many miles were between them. He was especially close to his younger sister, Sara. They had an incredible connection that words really can’t describe. He was such a proud big brother and made sure everyone knew it.

Like his father, Danny’s passion for music grew as he got older. Danny Blues was a gifted and talented musician. He mastered countless instruments with no formal training. He used his brilliant mind to create rap and poetry.  The music he created was his own unique sound. Some of the artists that inspired him included: Atmosphere, Kid Cudi and Antarctica, Teenage Sweater, Tabor Mountain and Helicopter Blues.

Danny had many friends who he loved and cared for deeply. He treated his friends as if they were family.  Many of these friends were in the music scene as well. They had shows around Humboldt County. They spent much of their time at “The Barn,” Blondie’s, The Jam and other local music venues. His friends described him as a “genius with words,” “a legend,” and “an incredible poet.” If you were lucky enough to be around him you got to experience his happy-go-lucky attitude, kindness and great sense of humor. Danny had a generous spirit and a contagious laugh that could make you feel better on your worst days.

He left this earth with so much untapped potential,  it breaks our hearts that his life ended far too soon, but his memory will live on in our smiles.

Special thanks to his close friends: Quade Ross, Quinten Salmon, Nicholas Shults, Zac Burroughs, Patrick Tabor, Chris Jolin, Forrest Garrison, Max Jeffers and many others who looked out for Danny Blues.

Danny’s ashes will be spread at sea in Humboldt County. His celebration of life will be held on July 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Mad River Beach.
