Fortuna’s Cody Emmons drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday, as the Humboldt Eagles 19U remained perfect in league play with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Siskiyou in Cutten.

With two outs, Emmons hit a line drive to left center field to score Garrison Finck, who had walked to reach base and was advanced all the way to third on a Gannon Cypers groundout.

The win, which head coach Matt Tomlin described as the game of the season so far, lifts the Eagles to 4-0 in league play and 21-7 overall.

Earlier in the day, the Eagles defeated Red Bluff 10-1 in a non-league game.

Caleb Ruiz

Caleb Ruiz got the win on the mound against Siskiyou with another strong showing, pitching a complete game and striking out nine.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles tied things up on a well-executed suicide squeeze, with Arcata’s Jaden Gorge scoring St. Bernard’s Hunter Davis, who had walked to reach base and advanced to third on a Ruiz base hit.

The score remained the same until Emmons’ late heroics, with Ruiz in control and keeping the visitors at bay.

Likewise, the Siskiyou pitchers kept the Eagles bats in check, with Kaden Riccomini, a Division-I player who will play for UC Davis next year, taking the mound in the bottom of the sixth.

Garrison Finck runs to third, moments before scoring the winning run.

A one-out walk to Finck, however, came back to haunt Riccomini, with Emmons up to the challenge.

Emmons, who has been outstanding all summer, finished the game 3-for-4.

The Eagles were denied chances by some outstanding fielding by the visitors late in the game.

In game one on Saturday, the ever reliable Kalebh Hill struck out nine in a complete game for the win, holding Red Bluff to just one hit.

JB Lewis had a huge game at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and three runs.

Cyphers added a three-RBI double.

Both games will be played at Redwood Fields in Cutten.
