Kari was born and raised in Newport Beach California, where she lived on Balboa Island with her family — parents Pat and Joel, siblings Darcy and Scott.

Kari attended Corona Del Mar Elementary School, Corona Del Mar High School, and Humboldt State University, graduating with a B.S. degree and teaching credential.

She was very active in sports. She belonged to a youth yacht club, where she took home many trophies for swimming, diving, rowing and paddle boarding competition. Kari played on softball amd basketball teams in high school.

Kari gave birth to two children, Wade Orlean Prentiss and Kale Rowan Prentiss, who both reside in Humboldt County.

She was a teacher at Freshwater School for 15 years, and her career was the highlight of her life!

Kari’s other loves were: camping, gardening, and animals. Being a believer in preserving the earth, she incorporated many such activities into her curriculum to inspire her students.

Kari precedes in death her parents, Joel Holmberg, Pat Care; her siblings, Darcy Hernandez and Scott Holmberg; and her children, Wade Orlean Prentiss and Kale Rowan Prentiss
