The Arcata Tigers took two major steps toward repeating as champions of the Humboldt-Del Norte League in boys tennis on Tuesday.

An impressive Arcata squad remained unbeaten in league play, winning two matches against closest rivals Northcoast Prep, one of them continued from two weeks ago when play was called with the score tied 3-3.

The Tigers completed the first matchup by winning two of the three doubles matches to edge out a 5-4 victory.

They followed that with a 6-2 win in the second match to go to 7-0 in league play and take control of the race for the championship.

NPA’s Gabe Blank and Hannes Milker won at No. 1 doubles in the first matchup, defeating Arcata’s Leo Janzen and Tristan Washington by a score of 8-5.

NPA’s Garrett Leach pushed Arcata’s Hunter Lewis all the way in their singles matchup on Tuesday.

Arcata took the next two doubles matches, with Addison Childs and Spencer Olson defeating Garrett Leach and Alex Lamers, 8-2, and Connor Olson and Art Frye getting the better of Caleb Weiss and Tareq Ahwrari, 8-5.

In the second match, Janzen, Hunter Lewis, Frye and Washington each won in singles play for Arcata, while Blank and Ahwrari won for NPA.
