Humboldt Bay Fire and the Eureka Police Department are still at the scene of a house fire that erupted earlier today just off West Avenue, near the corner of 18th Street and County Lane.

The fire started in the garage of the home, which contained a hash lab, according to Humboldt Bay Fire public information officer Amy Conlin, who spoke to the Outpost‘s Stephanie McGeary at the scene.

The fire in the garage spread into the living space of the home before firefighters could put it out, Conlin said. The garage suffered major damage and the residence minor damage.

Conlin said that investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. One person was at home when the fire broke out, and was not injured.
