There’s no shortage of choices for local baseball and softball fans on Saturday, with a total of 22 games on tap featuring local high school varsity and college teams.

And that doesn’t even include the Arcata JV tournament, which will be going all day as well.

In baseball, both Arcata and McKinleyville will try to keep their impressive start to the season going in key Big 5 doubleheaders, while the Little 4 lead will be up for grabs in Miranda when South Fork hosts St. Bernard’s.

Arcata has been perhaps the most impressive of all local teams so far this year and is 11-0, including a 1-0 mark in the Big 5.

The Tigers will host Fortuna in a doubleheader at McKinleyville High School, beginning at 11 a.m.

At Crescent City, the Mack Panthers will try to complete the league sweep over Del Norte after defeating them 9-0 at home earlier in the week.

The Panthers are also unbeaten at 8-0, and are scheduled to play Arcata in a three-game series next week that could go a long way toward deciding the league.

South Fork, meanwhile, is 2-0 in conference and on top of the standings in the Little 4, but the Cubs will have their hands full against a St. Bernard’s team that is 1-0 in league play and will be looking to leapfrog their L4 rivals with a doubleheader sweep.

St. Bernard’s is 7-2 overall, while South Fork is 6-0.

Also in the Little 4, Ferndale (0-1, 2-5) will travel to Hoopa (0-2, 0-5) for a doubleheader.

All the high school doubleheaders get under way at 11 a.m.

In college baseball, Redwoods will host Butte for two conference games at Bomber Field across from the Redwood Acres, with first pitch scheduled for noon.

CR is 2-13 in the Golden Valley Conference and 3-22 on the season, while Butte is 9-4 and 20-7.

The Arcata JV tournament will be played on the lower high school field, with games going on all day.

Softball schedule

In softball, meanwhile, Arcata and McKinleyville will also be looking to keep their impressive runs going.

The Tigers are a surprising 7-1 this season and 1-0 in the Big 5, and will take a six-game winning streak into Saturday’s doubleheader at home to Fortuna (0-1, 3-5).

The Panthers took care of business at home to Del Norte in Friday’s Big 5 opener, and are now 6-0 overall.

The Mack girls will try to keep rolling in a doubleheader at Del Norte (0-1, 2-8) on Saturday.

In the Little 4, Ferndale will play two games at Hoopa Valley on Saturday, while St. Bernard’s swept a doubleheader against South Fork on Friday.

All of Saturday’s league doubleheaders get under way at 11 a.m.

In non-league action, the Eureka Loggers (0-0, 4-2) will travel for a doubleheader at Ukiah High playing the host school and Maria Carrillo.

College of the Redwoods (2-2, 6-12) will also be in action, playing a doubleheader at Feather River (4-0, 9-13) that could see the CR women move to the top of the Golden Valley Conference standings.

On Friday, the Corsairs split a doubleheader at Butte.

And rounding out a busy day for the local teams, Humboldt State (10-19) will play a pair of games at the Tournament of Champions in Turlock.
