Eureka Police Department press release:

On March 3, 2019, at about 3:30 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the area of Wabash Avenue and A Street for the report of a male subject standing on a roof with a guitar. While officers were responding, the caller updated dispatchers the male had a rifle, not a guitar.

Officers arrived on scene and ultimately contacted two male subjects who explained that they were shooting at rodents in their yard with a pellet rifle. Officers confirmed their story and counseled them on the municipal code violation. A records check of the subjects revealed that one of them, 19 year old Jonathan Ponce, had an out of County warrant. Ponce was taken into custody on the warrant and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

The Eureka Police Department would like to remind the citizenry that it is illegal to discharge firearms, slingshots, air guns, or bow and arrows within the City limits per Eureka Municipal Code 133.06.
