Scott Michael Slater died on April 15, 2019, at his home in Brookings, Oregon at the age of 49. He was born on January 17, 1970 to Donna Reitman and Patrick Slater of New York. He as the oldest of 3 boys. His family moved to Willits, CA in 1980. He attended Willits High School, winning a State Championship for wrestling his sophomore year. They moved to Humboldt County in 1990.

Scott was a hardworking man, working in construction as a carpenter. He worked for Danco Construction for many years, in both Sonoma and Humboldt Counties. He was a proud member of the Local Carpenters Union 751 of Eureka. He was an accomplished concrete foreman, known to many as the best in the business. He was very proud of the work he did building the new sports complex at Humboldt State University for Kiewit Construction.

He had many hobbies. He loved cooking and barbecuing for family and friends. He did love the neon lights, spending much time at the local watering holes like the Moose Lodge and Lost Coast Brewery. He enjoyed playing pool and socializing with his many friends. He as fun and lively, the life of the party. Most of his friends called him by childhood nickname ,“Root.” He enjoyed hunting, shooting at his local gun range and fishing at his favorite spots. His favorite was taking his son fishing and telling him all his fish stories. He was a great story teller, and told some real whoopers. He left us too soon, with many unfinished adventures.

He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Donna Muckley, stepfather Bruce Muckley and close friend Fred Jewels.

He is survived by the Llght of his life, his son, Cody Slater; his brother and sister in-law Chad and Jody Crandall; his nephews Jacob and Jarren Crandall; his brother Eric Crandall; his niece Shayna and nephew Evan Crandall; his aunt and uncle Deborah and John Bergen; his uncle and aunt William and Chris Reitman; his cousins Josh Dussor, Chance Lokkin, Brian Reitman and Ben Reitman; and many lifelong friends and co-workers.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the McKinleyville Moose Lodge 1791 Sutter Road in McKinleyville. All his friends are invited to join us. It is a potluck and the main course will be provided. We hope to see you all there to celebrate our beloved father, brother and friend.
