College of the Redwoods sophomore Jarid Jorgensen has qualified for this weekend’s community college track and field championships in a pair of events.

At the recent NorCal championships, Jorgensen placed second in both the discus and the hammer, qualifying for the prestigious state meet in each.

The Fortuna High grad threw a 151 in the discus and a 163-5 in the hammer.

He is the lone Corsair to move on to the state meet, but wasn’t the only CR star at the recent NorCals.

In the men’s 400 meters, Grant Van Emmerik barely missed out on state qualification with a sixth-place finish, setting a new school record in the event with a time of 48.18 seconds.

The top five move on to the state meet.

The CR men’s 4×100 relay was seventh.

In the women’s competition, Katie Bergor also barely missed out on qualification for this week’s meet, placing sixth in the high jump.

CR’s Savannah Henninger also competed in the women’s shot put.
