The weather continues to affect the NCS playoff schedule in baseball and softball this week, but there appears to be a break coming for the local teams still involved.

Three more games featuring H-DNL teams were postponed on Tuesday because of the rain, and all three have been re-scheduled for Wednesday.

All seven local teams still remaining, in fact, are now scheduled to play on Wednesday, and as of Tuesday afternoon it appears as if all of those games will go ahead.

In baseball, McKinleyville and Arcata will finally open their North Coast Section playoffs after almost two weeks off for each.

The two programs are the top two seeds in the Division-IV bracket and each will host their quarterfinal games at home after receiving an opening-round bye last week.

The No. 1 Panthers will play No. 8 Redwood Christian at Mack High and the No. 2 Tigers will play No. 7 Piedmont at the Arcata Ball Park.

Both games are set for 5 p.m..

In Division-VI baseball, No. 1 seed South Fork will host No. 4 San Francisco Waldorf in a semifinal showdown, also on Wednesday at 5.

In softball, meanwhile, four H-DNL teams remain in contention for an NCS title, including three that are seeded in the top two in their respective brackets.

In Division IV, No. 2 McKinleyville will host No. 10 Kennedy at Mack High, and could get a rematch with close rivals Arcata in this weekend’s semifinal round if each wins on Wednesday.

The No. 6 Tigers, who won their first NCS game in seven years last week, will have a tough quarterfinal showdown at No. 3 Cardinal Newman.

In Division V, No. 2 Hoopa will host a second playoff game in less than a week, when No. 3 Credo travels to Hoopa High.

And in Division VI, No. 1 seed South Fork will play for the first time in two weeks against No. 4 Emery in Miranda.

All of Wednesday’s games are scheduled for 5 p.m.
