Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified skeletal remains located at Big Lagoon State Park on March 8, 2019, as that of 46-year-old Timothy Jason Moore of Alabama. Foul play is not suspected in Moore’s death; however, his cause of death is unknown at this time.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the California Department of Justice and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama, for their assistance in identifying Moore’s remains, in addition to California State Parks, the U.S. National Park Service, and Humboldt State University’s Anthropology Department for their assistance with this case.

On Friday, March 8, 2019 at approximately 12:50 pm, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the report of a deceased body at Big Lagoon State Park. Deputies along with officers from the California State Parks arrived on scene and located a severely decomposed body on the beach approximately 4 miles north of the main parking lot. Sheriff Detectives and the Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and the body was retrieved. This investigation is currently ongoing.
