Eureka Police Department press release:
On 11-01-2019 at 2:44 pm, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to a parking lot at the 2500 block of 4th Street for two subjects “down on the ground.”
Upon arrival, an officer located two subjects in the southern portion of the parking lot. Both subjects were unresponsive and were displaying objective signs of overdosing on an opioid. The officer began life saving efforts and began administering Narcan to the subjects. One of the individuals responded immediately to the Narcan and began breathing normally and answering questions. The second subject was still unresponsive, when medical staff and additional officers arrived on scene. Ambulance staff took over treatment of the subject and he was soon alert and breathing regularly.
Both subjects were loaded into an ambulance and were transported to St. Joseph ER for further treatment and observation. They are expected to fully recover.
It should be noted that the second subject was also contacted on 10-12-2019 at a different location, but in a similar medical emergency. Narcan was also needed during this event to save the subjects life.
