The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team was unable to keep up with an athletic Mendocino on Friday night, falling 91-78 in Ukiah.

Drew Gillette led the Corsairs with 31 points, including six of his team’s 12 3-pointers.

Thomas Nelson, who has been CR’s most consistent offensive threat through the young season, added 14 points, while Isaac Puzz closed out an impressive road trip with 13 points.

“Physically we were just not able to sustain 40 minutes of play at the level they’re at,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said of the Eagles. “By far the most athletically gifted team we’ve seen on the JUCO landscape thus far.”
The Corsairs, who are now 5-3, continued to battle.

“I love our guys,” the coach added. “They played with such toughness and resiliency.”

Next up, the Corsairs will play De Anza at the Mendocino tournament next Thursday.

In women’s action on Friday, CR”s Ashley Quigley scored 20 points in an 80-42 win over Contra Costa.

Bree Northern added 15 points in the win.
