CHP collision report.

California Highway Patrol press release:

11-19-2019, at approximately 1:21 a.m., the Humboldt Area CHP responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Southbound US-101 at the California Redwood Company crossing, which is located just north of Harper Motors.

Upon arriving on scene, emergency medical personnel located 38-year-old Amanda Dyball of Fortuna, suffering from major injuries due to being struck by a vehicle. Ms. Dyball was subsequently transported to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers interviewed the driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Jorge Martinez, and his passenger, 36-year-old Paula Bana, both of Santa Rosa. Based on the preliminary investigation officers determined that Ms. Dyball walked across US-101 and directly into the path of Mr. Martinez.

It was dark and raining lightly at the time of the collision, increasing the danger of crossing the roadway at this location.

The CHP Humboldt Area Office is continuing its investigation into this collision and asks anyone who may have information to contact the office at 707-822-5981 or send an email to humboldt_area.humboldt_area@chp.ca.gov.

The CHP would also like to remind pedestrians to increase your visibility at night by carrying a flashlight and wearing light-colored or reflective clothing. Also, be careful crossing multiple lanes of traffic and make sure each lane of traffic is clear before you cross.
